Local Government Fees to be implemented in Penang Hotels

taken from visitpenang.gov.my

Effective from 1 June 2014, a “Local Government Fee” will be imposed on all hotel guests in Penang and the rates vary according to the type of hotel the guest is staying in.

RM3.00 will be charged per room per night for 4-star and 5-star hotels and RM2.00 will be charged per room per night for 3-star hotels and below including all dormitories, budget hotels, hostels and guest houses.

The Local Government Fee will be imposed on all hotel guests who are staying from 1 June 2014 onwards regardless of whether the bookings were made prior to the enforcement date.

For the month of June, the fee collected by the hotels will be submitted to the local government by month end but from July onwards, the fee will be submitted every two months.

The proceeds generated from the fees will be utilised for the development and promotion of tourism infrastructures in Penang. A committee called the Penang Local Government Fee Committee, chaired by the Penang Chief Minister and represented by the local council and hotel association, will be the deciding body on how the fees will be used effectively.

The Local Government Fee will also be imposed even on unlicensed and unrated hotels. However, these hotels are encouraged to apply for their licenses as soon as possible. In this regard, the local government will help ease the process for these hotels to obtain their licenses.

Spend wisely, travel wisely! I know it's more expensive, but this is one of the way to help the state government to maintain and beautify the places all over.

Yonex BWF World Championship 2011: A match to remember...

The picture above says it all. Our Datuk Lee Chong Wei with the teary eyes on the podium after his lost to Lin Dan of China. It was a truly greatest men single match I have ever witnessed, kudos to both men for giving out such a exciting displays with all tricky and varieties of shots.

From the news:

The pick of the days finals was, without doubt, the men’s singles clash between top seed and world No 1 Lee Chong Wei and second seed Lin Dan.

The Malaysian won the opening game 22-20 but Lin Dan hit back to take the second 21-14.

That set up a thrilling decider in which Lin Dan saved two match points before winning it 23-21 on his first match point.

The 82-minute battle between the great rivals was so draining that Chong Wei collapsed backstage with cramp and needed extensive treatment.

Congratulations to all the winners, well done LCW...keep fighting !!!

New Coins from Next Year 2012

Bank Negara will be introducing a new series of coins from early next year, replacing the current series which is 20 years old.

Meanwhile, the new series will be sold as commemorative coins from Tuesday, said Bank Negara Governor Tan Sri Dr Zeti Akhtar Aziz on Monday.

She also said new series of notes would be issued in Septemeber but declined to elaborate on this.

She said the new coins will go into general circulation only next year to enable coin machine operators, for instance, to recalibrate their machines accordingly.

The new coins - 50sen, 20sen, 10sen and 5sen - are smaller and lighter than the current coins, with more security features.

The coins also have features that make it easier for the visually-impaired to use.

She said the coins were designed by a Malaysian and wholly minted by Bank Negara's mint in Malaysia.

Looking at the new coins, looks a bit "not that nice" compared to the old ones...nothing to hoo haa about :p

The STAR, Malaysia’s leading English daily in collaboration with Henry Butcher Malaysia Penang, will be organising its annual The Star Property Fair from 21 – 24 July, 2011. This annual property exhibition offers prospective property investors with one of the largest showcase of choice properties in Penang.

The fair promises to be more exciting this year. The exhibition will showcase new and “yet to be revealed” real estate developments and the ever popular free public forums. A round table discussion with industry is being organized as a prelude to the fair.

With new elements being introduced annually, the most prestigious fair in the Northern region never failed to dazzle both exhibitors and visitors alike.

Penang UNESCO Heritage Festival: Jazz & Heritage 22nd July 2011

Jazz & Heritage by the Northern Jazz Ensemble
Date: 22nd July 2011 (Friday)
Time: 8p.m.
Venue: Penang Town Hall, Esplanade.
Dress Code: Formal
Age 10 & above only

In conjunction of the UNESCO heritage month and Georgetown Festival 2011, the Northern Jazz Ensemble will be organizing the second edition of the Jazz & Heritage at the prestigious Town Hall on the 22nd July 2011 (Friday).

Jazz & Heritage will bring back the nostalgic memories of the music Malaysians love and listened to in the past but has long been forgotten. It will feature some of the most famous jazz classics by Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, Benny Goodman and many more. And since this year Jazz &Heritage is going Oriental, the program will also pay tribute to the music of Teresa Teng, Chen Gexin, Yao Lee, Liu Chia Chang and other oriental folk/classic tunes, some dating back to the Qing Dynasty, of course with a jazz twist.

If you are a fan of Jazz, then you would love it. Just make sure you plan your time properly as it's a Friday night.
