PENANGITES can now access the Internet at 134 free WiFi hotspots on the island and the mainland compared to a mere 26 hotspots in March.
Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said REDTone International Bhd which provided all the hotspots, was now embarking on phase two of its rollout plan.
“This will add another 250 hotspots by year end,” he said when launching the 100th hotspot at a shopping mall in Bayan Baru here yesterday.
He said the company plans to have some 750 hotspots by end of 2010 by which time the state will have at least 90% coverage.
“Currently there are 10,000 registered users of the free WiFi services and the number is likely to hit 30,000 by end of this year,” he said.
The hotspots are scattered around places like Komtar, Bukit Jambul, George Town, Queensbay Mall, Prai and Seberang Jaya.
Anyone out there enjoying this free WiFi can tell me the reception? Thanks a lot :)
