GEORGE TOWN, May 28 (Bernama) -- The multi-storey car park in Penang Hill which is being reconstructed, is due to be completed by Aug 31 and will be opened to the public before the end of the year.
Penang Development Corporation (PDC) deputy general manager (I) Iskandar Basha Abdul Kadir said the reconstruction of the parking area which was initially due to be ready at the end of this month, was now 65 per cent completed.
"The eight-storey building costing RM11 million has six levels of parking area, a commercial floor and one level for office space," Iskandar Basha told reporters here Wednesday.
The 28.1-metre high building contains 311 parking bays for cars, 171 for motorcycles, a food court and other basic amenities.
The original parking facility which was completed in March 2011, failed to obtain the occupational certificate from the Penang Municipal Council as its design did not meet the specifications.
The building was then demolished. The construction of the new block was originally supposed to be completed by Nov 25, 2013.
