National Instrument to Invest in Penang

Very very good news for Penang Government and jobseekers in Penang island. National Instrument or better known as NI that specialize in Test and Measurement equipments had just annouced that they will be setting up a plant in Bayan Lepas and invest rm280 million into it.

The plant will be targeted to operate as research and development center as well as operation base for Asia. Is this a threat to Agilent who is well establish in Penang? I personally do not think so since both their main targeted customer are not here in Penang. To me NI is merely taking the advantages of cheap labour and well trained resources that they can find here in Penang. RM240 million will be allocated for the first phase and the plant will starts work sometime next year 2009 and when it's completed, it will created new employment for about 1500 people here... Good news for us all :)
