Charming Penang in 'sparkling lightings'

PENANG’S main tourist spots such as the Esplanade and Gurney Drive will be all lit up for the coming Chinese New Year, said state Tourism Development chairman Danny Law.

“Our Chinese New Year lights will be similar to Hong Kong and Singapore’s fantastic Christmas lights which have become tourist attractions in their own right.

“The state aims to become the number one destination for tourists to come and celebrate the Year of the Tiger. The Street of Harmony and Chew Jetty are also among the places that will be lighted up,” he said after launching Prangin Mall’s new heritage stage yesterday.

Law said a host of activities such as the Chief Minister’s open house on the first day of Chinese New Year (Feb 14) in Komtar Walk and the Poh Hock Seah Association’s procession of 54 floats on Chap Goh Meh (Feb 28) had also been organised.

“Many people come to Penang for the Chinese New Year. The attraction here is the various Chinese cultural activities and also the traditional delicacies that can be found,” said Law.
