It's soooo HAZY today...

Wow...so early morning woke up already see the whole skies blur blur. As I was on my way to work, I can see it's clearly the visibility level has dropped a lot....wondering what's wrong or is there any forest burning in Sumatera again??? It turns out to be that this haze has been happening since yesterday morning, but it's getting more serious today...

The presence of the pollutant ozone found in the air around Penang caused a slight stir among Penangites who woke up yesterday to a thick cloud of haze hanging over the island.

The ozone, (which according to notes accompanying the Air Pollutant Index (API) data, can be produced from a reaction between industrial or vehicle emissions and sunlight), had caused the visibility level to drop to as low as 4km.

The API readings at 11am were 61 at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), 57 in Perai and 54 in Seberang Jaya — all moderate in air quality.

The reading at 3pm remained at 61 at USM and rose to 61 in Perai and 69 in Seberang Jaya yesterday.

The API for unhealthy air quality is 101 to 200 while moderate air quality is from 51 to 100.

State Health, Welfare, Caring Society and Environment Committee chairman Phee Boon Poh (pic), when contacted, confirmed that the state government had issued a warning to several factories to take measures on effective effluent management.

He also said the Malaysian Meteorological Department had reported some hotspots in Sumatera which could be a factor contributing to the haze in the northern states.
