The Penang State Symphic Band (PESSBAND) was formed in 2001. It is the only community symphonic band in Penang state. PESSBAND was formed with the sole purpose of providing an avenue for band players to get together and sare their talents, skills and experiences, as well as to promote the music culture and appreciation in Penang. The band is partly subsidized by the Penang State Government. It's main source of income comes from donations from the public.

The band is manned by a group of volunteers who are music lovers and who share a common vision and commitment to make PESSBAND the best, not only withi, but outside Penang too. With this in mind, the band has successfully conducted many music workshops, charity performances and concerts all these years, and gradually gaining its reputation as a professional band. Their past activities involved joint performances with the United State Pacific Fleet Band, Pembroke School, Waseda Brass Band, local artistes such as our Malaysian idol Daniel Lee and so on.

The Band's performance at Dewan Sri Pinang hopes to enable all the young and gifted players in the Band as opportunity to showcase their talents to the public and hence create two way flow in community involvement.
